Content Replaces Location in The Cyber Age
The watchword "location" often repeated in the
form of a chant; "Location, Location, Location"
by would-be business start-up entrepreneurs
looking for prime postioning for their fledgling
retail businesses, has some competition.
As of late, the new watchword seems to be....
"Content, Content, Content".
Content, in relation to a website is what
a good location is for any retail business.
Content is becoming more and more of the driving
force for directing targeted traffic to websites.
If your website has focused content it can mean
valuable, targeted traffic.
What is meant by "focused" content is simply,
relevent information. Relevant to the product or
service your business markets.
What does content have to do with your website?
2 words. Free Traffic. If you want to get free
traffic (I don't know why you wouldn't), your
website needs to be ranked higher in the search
engines.
Outside of having to pay for traffic via pay-per-
click, one of the next best things to generate
traffic to your site is free traffic via SEO
(Search Engine Optimization).
And one of the most effective ways to utilize SEO
techniques is to publish targeted, relative,
useful content.
The content itself should be in the form of
articles, blogs or other relevant information
published on a regular basis. (search engines
love that)
Where do you get these articles, blogs and other
information? Well, if you know your business
like no one else should, the content mentioned
above should be fairly easy to come by.
Even if you aren't a very good writer, you need
to force yourself to regularly publish something
relevant about your business, product or service.
Afterall, you know the most about your business
and you are the expert. That's what people are
looking for when they are searching online....the
quickest, most relevant (best) information.
An expert who can answer any question they may
have in your area of expertise.
If you have alot of relevant information published
to your website regularly your loyal web visitors
will come back regularly to check out the latest.
Also, the search engines will "visit regularly"
and crawl your webpages for relevant information
to see if your content warrants a higher search
engine ranking.
So, what does all of this talk about content have
to do with your Virtual Real Estate Empire?
Everything!
The more visitors you can attract to your website
with valuable content the more valuable your
website becomes.
And... the best part about it is that you can
control it!
You can control the content that needs to be
regularly published to your site.
So, the more time and effort you put into
publishing "better" content the more valuable
you make your website.
Sort of like "sweat equity" in the house you
bought. The more work you put into it the more
valuable (hopefully) it will become over time.
You essentially build your own value and
to borrow a term from the real estate industry,
your website will "appreciate" in value.
